Australian of the Year: Stewie Dew

Please, allow me this indulgence as we take a break from Jerk of the Week to remember the big man, Stewie Dew:

”As a player, I would have been fairly high-maintenance when it comes to fitness coaches…”

That may well be the case but my god you were beautiful in last year’s grand final.

You will be missed Mr Dew.

After playing 180 games for Port Adelaide, including the club’s 2004 premiership, Dew still hopes that in the remaining rounds of this season he can add to the 26 matches he has notched for the Hawks (15 last year and 11 so far in 2009). But having set himself a goal mid-year of increasing his impact in the second half of this season – just as he did to brilliant effect just 12 months ago – Dew resolved he had not met his expectations and so decided to pull the pin.

I just wish it could have lasted longer.

Crawf

Well, I was born a Hawks supporter. Therefore Saturday’s grand final was a pretty sweet thing.

It was a far fough contest and in the end, in my humble opinion, it all just came down to heart – and that’s something our Hawks have always had plenty of!

For me, the tears welled up most for the handsomest and longest suffering man in the AFL, Shane Crawford.

To quote the Angry Ant (Clarkson): “We are a happy team at Hawthorn!”

Crawf!

5 – 0

Few things are sweeter than destroying England 5 – 0. It’s only the second time we’ve ever done it and the last time was too long ago for anyone to remember.

Langer made me cry – mostly because he was crying. That’s ok though, I’m a sensitive guy who is in touch with his feelings of hatred for the English cricket team.

The question now is who will be made Australian of the year? Punter? Warnie? McGrath? Langer? I don’t think they could make Warnie Australian of the year due to his “off the field” conduct but McGrath, the family man, could do it, as could Punter.

Bring on the World Cup I say!

Australian of the Year

In a move I am sure to regret, I’d like to make a serious prediction for Australia of the Year 2006.

In all seriousness I suspect that Ricky Ponting will be Australian of the year.

Why? Steve Waugh, Mark Taylor and Alan Boarder were all Australians of the year at some point, Punter is in peak form and he’s the Australian cricket captain (and we all know how the PM feels about that).

Of course if he isn’t then I blame the Ashes, and come to think of it Waugh was the 2004 Australian of the Year so it could be a little soon to have another Cricket captain receive the honour. Maybe I should start a campaign now for him to recieve the honour in 2007…

Australian of the Year

I fear I might be too late too late to nominate for Australian of the Year, but I’ll tell you who it should be: Mick who the fuck is Lewis.

Bloody legend!
