Jerk of the Week: Wilson Tuckey

As a sign of respect, there wasn’t going to be a Jerk of the Week this week. Then Outspoken Liberal MP Wilson Tuckey dropped this bomb:

OUTSPOKEN federal Liberal MP Wilson Tuckey has blamed the major parties for Victoria’s bushfire tragedy, saying it’s been caused by politicians pandering to green votes… Mr Tuckey, a former federal forestry minister, said government policies, which locked up forests, created excessive fuel loads.

He said he expected to be branded insensitive for raising the issue…

Mr Tuckey said when a forests products industry existed they used access roads and bulldozers which helped to put out a fire the day it started.

Not only is it insensitive to start some political point scoring when the death toll is expected to rise above 300, he’s just plain wrong. a) more roads wouldn’t have helped anyone in this fire, b) burning off has mixed results and can in fact lead to denser undergrowth and therefore worse fires.

What a Jerk.

  2. Now see you just don’t get it. What needs to happen is cut down ALL the forest and then there’ll be no forest fires. It makes perfect sense…
