Crawf

Well, I was born a Hawks supporter. Therefore Saturday’s grand final was a pretty sweet thing.

It was a far fough contest and in the end, in my humble opinion, it all just came down to heart – and that’s something our Hawks have always had plenty of!

For me, the tears welled up most for the handsomest and longest suffering man in the AFL, Shane Crawford.

To quote the Angry Ant (Clarkson): “We are a happy team at Hawthorn!”

Table of Knowledge

I’m very proud of a very good friend of mine, Christopher Hanrahan. He’s an exceptional artist who is represented by the Sarah Cottier Gallery in Sydney. He’s got his first solo show at the gallery opening this Thursday so I’m flying up to Sydney for it.

If you’re in Sydney, I highly recommend getting along.

Mental Health Reform in Victoria

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I got a promotion. Yep, I’m officially HACSU‘s Publicity and Communications Officer.

And I’d like a little support from the likes of you for the first major action associated with this promotion.

The Victorian government is current reviewing it’s mental health policy. At the moment it looks like the outcomes will increase the demand for these services, without providing the resources needed to cope with it.

We need you to let the Victorian Government know that this isn’t good enough.

Please go to www.bettermentalhealth.org.au and send an email to the Minister for Mental Health Lisa Neville, the Minister for Health Daniel Andrews and the Premier John Brumby. We need them to know that this is an issue that is important for the state of Mental Health in Victoria. Services are overstretched as it is. The current system cannot deal with a further demand increase.

This is an important one

Well the only semi-decent paper in the country has decided to cut it’s staff by 30%. That’s 550 journalists and editorial staff who will no longer have a job. Needless to say this has two pretty significant problems.

Firstly, no one likes to see people loose jobs. Especially as unnessisarily as this.

Secondly, it’s going to make the quality of the paper decline further. Then where are people like myself going to turn for their news? The Oz?

So I urge you all to go to http://www.fairgofairfax.org.au/petition/ and sign the petition, then send a letter to the editor at letters@theage.com.au
