I always suspected roids…

I was always quite fond of Chris Benoit (even if his name did remind me of a sex toy):

Professional wrestler Chris Benoit met with his personal physician hours before he allegedly killed his wife and son before hanging himself in his basement, the doctor said.

(How do you categories a post like this? Is it insensitive to categorise it as “sport”)

One for my little sister…

…who has been known to say to me on more than one occasion “my god, you’re such a first child“, which is such a third child thing to say:

The eldest children in families tend to develop higher I.Q.’s than their siblings, researchers are reporting today, in a large study that could settle more than a half-century of scientific debate about the relationship between I.Q. and birth order.

Kobayashi’s jaw injury

It would appear that the “Tsunami” Kobayashi is suffering from jaw arthritis and his future as a competitive eater is under threat, and only weeks away from Nathan’s annual 4th July hot dog eating contest!

A JAPANESE man who set a world record by wolfing down dozens of hot dogs within minutes has suffered a severe jaw injury due to his rigorous training, making his next title uncertain.

Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi said he can only open his mouth to make a gap the size of a fingertip after being diagnosed with jaw arthritis.

In an entry on his blog entitled “Occupational hazard,” Kobayashi said: “My jaw refused to fight any more.”

The injury occurred only a week after the slender 29-year-old started training to win his seventh straight title at the annual July 4 Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating event on New York’s Coney Island.

Ubuntu and the Union movement

This article over at Eric Lee is certainly worth a read for all unionists and FOSS enthusiasts:

Fourth, if you really love monopoly capitalism and companies like Microsoft earning billions in profits just warms your heart, go ahead — keep using Windows. But if you like the idea of a society in which goods and services might be distributed for free (does “to each according to his need” ring a bell?), you might find the free and open source software movement of some interest. For ideological reasons, unions should be lining up behind and aggressively promoting this one sector of the modern economy in which there is a real alternative to giant, profit-driven transnational capital.

It’s time for unions to save their members’ money, to make their offices more efficient and secure, and to support the free and open source software movement. It’s time for unions to switch over to Ubuntu Linux.
