A few tid bits

May of you will be interested in this press release:

The Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) today granted bridging visas to the final two athletes from the Sierra Leone Commonwealth Games team.

All 14 athletes who were listed by their team as missing and whose Games accreditation was withdrawn have now been located and are lawfully in the community.

I’ve got other exciting news that I was hoping to be able to tell you by about now but it will have to wait another day or so.

However this is quite different to the other news that I’ve been holding back and can now announce. One of my best friends is getting married, god bless her! Yep, she’s all in love and shit and I couldn’t be happier for her. I don’t think she reads this but if you do then let me tell you once again that I love you more than life itself!!

  4. Sorry to disappoint Dragonfly. My opinion on the matter is that I think the fact that they are from Sierra Leone should be enough to grant them citizenship or an appropriate visa (which a temporary protection visa is not).

And yes, it’s quite fantastic that my particularly dear friend is in love.

  8. Well the question is “are they eligible for refugee status?” Yes, Sierra Leone is a shithole. I believe that one of the escapees had watch family members be hacked to death with machetes in front of them – that doesn’t sound like a place that anyone should have to live in.

I guess the controversy lies in whether or not they are “queue jumpers”. Personally I find this notion repulsive but this is probably the argument against granting these people asylum.

What’s really interesting is the way these people were treated in contrast to the way the “boat people” were treated. The Sierra Leonean escapees were athletes that were a little cheeky so they got away with it, they are also not middle eastern so no one is talking about terrorist concerns. It’s a massive double standard.

  10. I agree it is a shithole because A there is nothing worse then walking down the street to get some milk only to have the corner shop blown up because of some silly infidels mistaking it for a temple or somthing, and B the weather would just plain would suck the ass of an aferican giant donkey traped inside the ass of a gay women with a facial hair.

I say let them in cos we dont have any giant bearded ladys here…….. i think?
