Went and saw DJ Vadim’s new outfit, Oneself, on Friday night. It might well be just me and a growing intolerance as I start to get on a bit, but it would seem that the dickhead factor at these sorts of shows is increasing. It might have something to do with sobriety but I don’t think so.

I made the call early in the evening. “If you’re going to wear a MegaDeath T shirt to a hip-hop show it should be at least 10 years old.” Mr “I just bought this really hip Mega Death T Shirt down Craple st before the show” had an incredible ability to stand in the same space that you were standing in (seriously, I was standing here first, there’s only room for me) and then starts to make out with his girlfriend basically on top of you.

He wasn’t the only dick either. There was Mr “I came straight here from hip-hop dancing class, watch this” before he narrowly avoids kicking someone in the head with his windmill, not to mention Mr “I’m so drunk right now I don’t know who I am so I’m just going to whoop on the off beat for about 2 mins at a time at the top of my lungs” who would then proceed to grope the nearest woman who he was convinced he’d just impressed.

Seriously kids, get on the eccies, you will piss me off a lot less than when you’re a drunk meat head.

DJ Vadim’s DJ set was not up to scratch I’ve got to say. The nice bits were a little too obvious. He did drop Fix Up Look Sharp (Dizzee) and Woo Hah (Busta), neither of which you hear too often in clubs. So that was nice, but his mixing in of Witness the Fitness was hardly a surprise.

However, when Yarah Bravo and Blu Rum 13 came on stage the standard rose considerably. Both are suburb MCs and I possibly want to sleep with both of them. Yarah Bravo is not only a A-Grade MC, but mighty sexy and has the sort of head on her shoulders that you just want to engage for hours on end. Blu Rum 13 had a completely different style and voice but together they worked beautifully.
